In Plain English

What this Article actually means

The same natural-justice principle as Article 92 (applied to the Rajya Sabha Chairman), here specifically applied to the Lok Sabha Speaker — they can't preside over their own removal proceedings, though they retain the right to speak in their own defence during the debate.
Why This Matters To You

How it shows up in everyday life

This is a consistent safeguard across both Houses, ensuring the presiding officer facing a removal motion doesn't control the very proceedings determining whether they'll be removed.

Frequently Asked

Quick answers about Article 96

Who presides over the House during a debate on removing the Speaker themselves?
This role would fall to the Deputy Speaker or another appropriate substitute, following the general succession principles under Article 95, since the Speaker specifically cannot preside during this particular debate.
