What It's Actually For
The EPIC (Elector's Photo Identity Card) confirms your registration on the electoral roll for a specific constituency, and is one of the most widely accepted general-purpose photo ID documents in India.
How to Get It
- Apply online via voters.eci.gov.in or the Voter Helpline app, using Form 6 (new registration) if you're 18+ and not yet registered.
- Requires age and residence proof; there's no fee for registration.
- Once approved, you can download the e-EPIC or collect a physical card.
How to Correct a Mistake
- Use Form 8 on the same voters.eci.gov.in portal to correct errors in name, address, age, photo, or other details on an existing entry.
- Corrections typically take a few weeks as they involve verification by the local Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) / Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Common Problems
- Name missing from the electoral roll on election day despite having a valid EPIC — always verify your roll status in advance at voters.eci.gov.in, not just on voting day.
- Duplicate entries across constituencies after moving residence — old entries should be deleted (Form 8 covers this) when you register at a new address.
