I'm eligible for a ration card but haven't been able to get one, or my name was removed
Wrongful denial or removal from the NFSA beneficiary list.
Under the NFSA, eligible households (Priority or Antyodaya, based on state-specific criteria) have a legal entitlement to a ration card and monthly food grain — wrongful denial or removal can be formally challenged.
- Apply (or reapply) at your local Fair Price Shop or the Food & Civil Supplies Department, with your Aadhaar and address proof.
- If wrongly denied or removed (often due to incomplete e-KYC/Aadhaar-seeding), file a written complaint with the District Food & Civil Supplies Officer.
- Every state has a Grievance Redressal Officer under the NFSA specifically for these complaints — use this formal channel if the local office doesn't resolve it.
- Use RTI to find out exactly why your name was removed from the list.

My local Fair Price Shop isn't giving the full quantity, or is demanding extra payment
Short-weighing, diversion, or overcharging at the ration shop.
This is a violation of the NFSA's legal entitlement — the shop is legally required to provide the correct quantity at the notified price, and diversion or short-weighing is a punishable offence.
- Note the shortfall/overcharge and document it where possible (photo of the weighing, receipt).
- Complain to the District Supply Officer, who has authority over Fair Price Shop licensing and can penalise or cancel a shop's licence for violations.
- Many states have a toll-free food helpline for exactly this kind of complaint.

I moved to a different state for work — can I still access my ration entitlement?
Accessing your food entitlement while working outside your home state.
The 'One Nation One Ration Card' (ONORC) system, now implemented nationwide, lets you use your existing ration card at ANY Fair Price Shop in India through biometric authentication.
- Ensure your ration card is Aadhaar-seeded (linked), which is required for ONORC portability.
- Visit any Fair Price Shop in your current location and authenticate biometrically to draw your entitlement.
- If a shop refuses to honour a valid out-of-state card, report it to the local Food & Civil Supplies Department.

My child's school isn't providing mid-day meals properly
Poor quality, irregular, or missing school meals.
PM-POSHAN (Mid-Day Meal Scheme) is a legal entitlement for children in government and government-aided schools, with defined nutritional standards.
- Complain to the School Management Committee first.
- Escalate to the District Education Officer or District Programme Officer for the scheme if unresolved.
